SUMMARY

Performs and coordinates all outreach and public education activities and acts as lead staff for community education team.  Essential tasks include: annual development of the Public Outreach Plan, establishing and maintaining relationships with medical, educational and social agencies, facilitating the public awareness and education campaign, completion of developmental screenings in community settings, supervision of community education team member(s), collaboration with local ECI programs and state office.  Works under general supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  PREFER:  Someone with marketing experience, EC2 or early childhood experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Develops and prepares annual Public Outreach Plan; Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with medical, educational and social agencies; Facilitating the public awareness and education campaign; Coordinates and facilitates developmental screenings in community settings; Supervision of community education team member(s); Collaboration with local ECI programs and state office; Provides comprehensive Early Intervention Services as outlined in the IFSP in accordance with the ECI Family Centered- Activity- Based philosophy

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Well developed interpersonal skills, excellent public presentation, oral and written communication skills, time management /organization skills, and basic computer skills; Knowledge of the local community and medical, educational and social resources; Ability to project  and articulate future program public outreach and education needs; Comprehensive knowledge of typical and atypical child development, and childhood disabilities, birth to three; Ability to mentor and supervise CEC; Ability to contribute discipline specific skills as a disciplinary representative on an interdisciplinary team which includes parents,/caregivers, and other professional staff.  Ability to perform under  minimal supervision with considerable requirements for initiative, discretion, independent  thought, judgment and self-motivation in matters of significance to families as well as the agency; Ability to enter and complete the EIS credentialing process as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum: BA in field closely related to the provision of early intervention services as determined by the Texas Interagency Council on Early Childhood Intervention.  Must complete the Texas Interagency Council on ECI competency system to become a Fully Qualified Early Intervention Specialist within two years; or must have licensure/certification in a related field such as social work or education.
