Adult Mental Health First Aid Training
About this event
Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.
Requirements: Prework and post-work are required for certification. Due to the virtual nature of this training, each individual must register using their own email address.
You will learn:
– Common mental health concerns among adults.
– How to reduce stigma
– How to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use problems in adults.
– Skills to use a 5-step action plan to help an adult who may be facing a mental health problem or crisis, such as suicide.
* Please do not register for this class if you have taken Adult Mental Health First Aid in the last 12 months.
Description: Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Learn the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.
WHAT IT COVERS
• Common signs and symptoms of mental illness.
• Common signs and symptoms of substance use.
• How to interact with a person in crisis.
• How to connect the person with help.
GENERAL INFORMATION: This course is 5.5 hours, with a 2-hour self-paced module that must be completed prior to the class date.
You must use a device with a webcam and microphone and both must work and be turned on. For most of the training we will ask you to mute yourself, but there are activities where you will need to speak and be heard. Webcams must be on during the entire training – so we know you are present, but also so we can use our mental health first aid skills if we see someone experiencing distress.

CERTIFICATIONS & CONTINUING EDUCATION: Participants that complete the full course will secure a three-year certification.
CEUs and CPEs are available for the virtual/blended course.
In order to ethically provide certification through the National Council for Behavioral Health, we use a platform that generates attendance time reports. We must have a total time in attendance for each participant and we are ethically bound to report the accumulated amount of time a participant attended, therefore we cannot issue certification to:- Individuals sharing a monitor, computer, and/or login- Individuals joining by audio phone only- Individuals missing more than 30 minutes
